Binder of the Empire: Our Reluctant Tribute to the Yankees
Let me get this out of the way:
I don’t like the Yankees.
Never have. I am a die-hard Tigers fan - hey I was raised right.
But even I had to admit - if you’re going to build a collection of binders that honors the most iconic teams in baseball history, well... you have to include the Yankees.
And this one? We think it dominates - just like the Yankees.
Yeah, Ok I Liked Them. For a Minute.
I’d be lying if I said I never got pulled in.
In the mid-80s, Don Mattingly was the guy. The rookie card to chase. The lefty swing. That stance! Any time I opened a pack of cards, if I got a Donnie Baseball I was a happy guy no doubt.
And the Yankees didn’t stop there — they had the criminally under-appreciated Dave Winfield then brought in Rickey Freakin’ Henderson!
Even as a kid who knew I wasn’t supposed to root for the Yankees, that squad was tough to ignore.
It didn’t last. But I’ll admit it: there was a brief window where I really did kinda dig them.
Hate ‘Em or Love ‘Em, You Know These Names
The Yankees have more lore than any other franchise in American sports. They just do, man! We’re talking 27 rings. The cathedral that is Yankee Stadium. Pinstripes. October dominance.
So when we put together this binder, we didn’t hold back. Like each Throwback team binder, this one includes some iconic moments in franchise history and legendary players. And sheesh, with the Yankees, there are so friggin’ many to choose from. On the front cover you’ll find:
Iconic moments
- Don Larsen’s perfect game in the 1956 World Series — the only one in World Series history
- Derek Jeter’s legendary flip to get Jeremy Giambi at home plate in the 2001 ALDS
- Aaron Boone’s walk-off homer in the 2003 ALCS to beat the Red Sox
- Reggie Jackson’s three home runs in Game 6 of the 1977 World Series
- Babe Ruth calls his HR in the 1932 series

These moments are etched into October history. They’re dramatic. They’re epic. They’re Yankees baseball.
And the legends
- Babe Ruth, where it all started.
- Lou Gehrig, “the luckiest man on the face of the earth.”
- Yogi Berra, 10-time champ and lovable quote machine. He was a good dude.
- Joe DiMaggio, streaking into immortality.
- Mickey Mantle, The Commerce Comet.
- Reggie Jackson, Mr. October — because of course.
- Don Mattingly, Donnie Baseball. My personal Yankee soft spot.
- Derek Jeter, I mean…..
-
Mariano Rivera, the final word in postseason games and the greatest closer of all-time.

It’s not just a collection of great plays and great players.
It’s a timeline of Yankee dominance, from Ruth to Rivera. From Monument Park to modern greatness.
No A-Rod? No Regrets.
You might ask: where’s Alex Rodriguez?
Here’s the thing: I couldn’t do it. I struggled, but I just couldn’t.
Sure, he put up some huge numbers. But it never felt right.
Even Yankees fans seem divided on him. And his post-season…..uh, not so hot.
Let’s just say he didn’t make the cut — and I’m good with that.
This Binder Had to Happen
I may never root for the Yankees, but this binder belongs on your shelf. It’s a tribute to baseball royalty — even if you can’t stand the royal family.
And hey, if I’m saying that? You know it’s legit. : )
