It Started at Card Shows (and at Home)
One of my favorite parts of this hobby has always been connecting with other collectors - especially at card shows. Talking sets. Talking players. Talking about why a certain year or team still means so much decades later.
“Why hasn’t anyone ever made a cool binder?”
I felt it too. The hobby has grown up in every possible way - grading, storage, vaulting, valuation - but binders were stuck in the same place they were when we were kids.
At the same time, this idea was forming at home. My wife Alison has been incredibly supportive from day one - supportive of the time, the investment, and the occasionally annoying “hey hun, which image of Reggie Jackson should I use?” deep-dives that come with building something like this from scratch. Without her encouragement, this probably stays an idea instead of becoming a brand.
Why Detroit Matters
Throwback Binders is proudly based in Detroit.
We started here for a reason - and we started with the Detroit Tigers binder to see what would happen.
They were the first real test. The first designs. The first time I put something I’d made out into the world and waited to see how collectors would respond.
The response told me I was onto something.
Teams or Sets? Yes!
Before going all in, we ran a market survey to answer a big question:
Should this be about teams or vintage sets?
The answer came back almost perfectly split - about 50/50.
That told me everything I needed to know!
- Collectors love their teams.
- Collectors love the sets they grew up with.
And for a lot of us, those things are inseparable.
So our first full rollout reflects that: a mix of team binders and vintage set binders, designed with the same care and respect for what those cards represent.
The Real Why
Throwback Binders isn’t about selling more stuff.
It’s about honoring what this hobby has meant to us, and still means
It’s about finally giving your collection a home that reflects the time, care, and passion you’ve poured into it.
Because your binders shouldn’t all look the same.
Because they shouldn’t be tipping over.
And because the memories inside them deserve better.
This is just the beginning. More teams, more sets, more stories are coming - and I’m glad you’re here for it.
